STC Members’ Virtual Lunch Hour Chat on Shorthanded Racing

Building on the continued success of our bi-weekly Friday lunch hour chats, the Young Member's Committee will present a panel discussion on short-handed sailing on Friday, May 15th. Stan and Sally Honey, Ed Cesare, and Chad Corning will share stories and tips with moderator Rich du Moulin, himself a highly accomplished doubleheader. Given the current state of affairs, it might be just the thing that gets you racing this season!

Stan Honey has done his share or professional navigating, including a Volvo Ocean Race wine and several records aboard Comanche. On the short handed side of the sport, he and his wife Sally Honey's Illusion has raced to Hawaii five times with a crew ranging from 1 to 4 and recording several wins and records. They've cruised doublehanded all around the Pacific from California to Hawaii to Alaska. Most recently, they've cruised the boat around from California to Rhode Island with plans to do this year's Newport to Bermuda Race.

Ed Cesare campaigned his Class 40 over four seasons from 2013 to 2016. This included three Atlantic Cups (placing 3rd in 2014), the 2016 Bermuda Race, the Vineyard Race and Ida Lewis races in each of those years, and a handful of shorter races. Chad Corning was Ed's co-skipper in three of those seasons.

This extraordinary panel will be moderated by Rich du Moulin, himself an avid doublehanded racer aboard his Express 37 Lora Ann. Rich, together with co-skipper Rich Wilson, also set a record for the 15,000-mile passage from Hong Kong to New York City aboard the 53-foot trimaran Great American II in 2003.
