Weather Forecasting Challenge! Do you have what it takes?

Have you developed weather expertise in your years on the water? Do you think you have what it takes to go toe-to-toe with the experts in forecasting what tomorrow will be like? Chicago Yacht Club is hosting a weather forecasting challenge. Run by two members of our Western Great Lakes Station, as part of this challenge, a Storm Trysail Club champion will be crowned.

Competitors will be forecasting the daily weather and will be scored based on how close to the real weather they are. Along the way we’ll have expert meteorologists commenting on the forecast, giving you guidance, educating you on forecasting, and maybe even competing against you. We’ll be forecasting for well-known sailing areas – Chicago (Week of May 18); Providence RI (a proxy for Newport) (week of May 25); and Miami (Week of June 1).

You’ll be challenged by different local environments and learn about the challenges of forecasting for different parts of the world.
For more information, or to enter, visit www.cycwxchallenge.com. The contest starts May 18. Registration is required (via that website) and is free and open now. Your first forecast is due Sunday night May 17, but you can join in any time!
