The Shearwater Regatta is back—and better than ever. Set to take place Saturday and Sunday, September 13–14, 2025, this much-anticipated event continues a tradition of excellence forged over 16 years through the steadfast partnership between the Storm Trysail Club (STC) and Riverside Yacht Club (RYC).

As co-organizing authorities, STC and RYC once again team up to deliver a premier fall regatta experience on Long Island Sound. The 2025 edition promises two days of high-caliber racing, camaraderie, and continued innovation, reinforcing Shearwater’s place as a marquee end-of-season event.

The LIS ORC Championship Returns

At the core of the weekend is the Long Island Sound ORC Championship, a two-day regatta designed to showcase the best in performance-based handicap racing. With the popularity and precision of the ORC rule continuing to grow in the region, this event provides a top-tier platform for teams to test their skills against a highly competitive fleet.

Welcome Back, PHRF Fall Classic

New for 2025—but a nod to the past—is the return of the PHRF Fall Classic. This one-day regatta welcomes boats scored under the Performance Handicap Racing Fleet (PHRF) system, bringing broader participation and adding another layer of excitement to the weekend. With accessible entry and a variety of boats expected to participate, the PHRF Fall Classic reopens the door to inclusive and spirited competition on the Sound.

A Social Scene to Match the Sailing

Riverside Yacht Club will once again serve as the social hub of the Shearwater Regatta, providing a welcoming venue for owners and their crews throughout the event. Additional details will be shared with all entered boats, but competitors can already look forward to a post-racing party on Saturday evening and a celebratory awards ceremony on Sunday afternoon. All participants are encouraged to join the festivities—because great racing deserves a great party.

The Shearwater Regatta is more than a collection of races—it’s a celebration of teamwork and tradition. Since its inception, the regatta has reflected the shared commitment of STC and RYC to elevate sailing in the region.
