This year’s 125-mile Nassau Cup started on February 20 off the Miami sea buoy, went east around Great Isaac, then Great Stirrup and finishing in Nassau, Bahamas. This year’s race saw three STC boats on the podium. In ORC 1, Hap Fauth’s Botin Maxi 72 Belle Mente took line honors finishing in a quick 12:20. Fauth corrected to second in both ORC 1 and overall.
In ORC 2, Andrew Clark’s J/122 Zig Zag took the class win and was fourth overall. Conny Baris’ J/122 Dire Wolf, finished third in ORC 2, and he had the following to share about the race:
“It was windy and fast...sporty. The best way to explain it is that it was like the Newport Bermuda Race except on a port tack and one day instead of three. It was a close reach until we made the final turn around Great Stirrup when we put up the Code zero and then went to the A5 before finishing.
