The first transatlantic race started in December of 1866 from New York Harbor. The race has been run many times since, but has only recently committed to a quadrennial schedule, running in 2011 and 2015. The last race was in 2019.
The Transatlantic Race is organized by the Royal Yacht Squadron, the New York Yacht Club, the Royal Ocean Racing Club and the Storm Trysail Club.
