Annapolis Junior Safety-at-Sea

The seminar will be an all-day affair 0900h to 1700h. You will be in the classroom and on the water.

Curriculum: 

  • Heavy Weather Discussion/Awareness/Radio
  • Crew Overboard Prevention and Recovery
  • Big Boat Safety Equipment
  • Fire Suppression and Flair Use
  • Life Raft Deployment and Boarding
  • On the water session with man overboard recovery, setting storm sails & emergency steering

You must bring the following:

  • Sunblock, hat, swimsuit, towel
  • Appropriate boating shoes. No flip flops or sandals
  • We will be sailing, rain or shine, so dress appropriately for the weather.
  • Lunch and a Refillable water bottle
  • USCG approved PFD (if you do not have one, please reach out in advance)
  • If you have an inflatable PFD, please bring it along so we can examine it and help you check it and learn about it
  • Any safety gear you own you want to learn more about!
  • A notebook and pen or pencil
