There will be a “Starting Window” from 1500-1800 on Friday. Cross the line at whatever time you determine optimal for the expected conditions, and we’ll record it!

🚨 Records Are Made to Be Broken! 🚨

In the world of sailing, records don’t last forever. Faster designs, new strategies, and favorable conditions eventually rewrite history.

✨ Remember back in 2003 when STC Members Rich Wilson and Rich du Moulin shattered the 154-year-old Tea Route record from Hong Kong to New York? Well, another record-breaking moment has arrived.

On Monday, January 20, STC Member Byron Ehrhart’s Juan K Maxi 88 LUCKY broke the monohull record for the @RORCracing Transatlantic Race, beating the previous record set by George David’s VPLP 100 COMANCHE by over an hour! On a corrected basis, LUCKY also claimed an impressive third place in IRC Overall.

LUCKY’s elapsed time was 07d 20:34:41.

Byron shared his thoughts on this achievement with fellow STC members:
💬 “We entered LUCKY in the RORC Transatlantic Race because it is a great course in the trade winds with compounding navigational challenges - and it was a great way to get the boat to the Caribbean for this season’s races.”

The Ted Hood Regatta always brings STC folks out to Marblehead, Massachusetts in the high swing of summer. This year our host partners Eastern Yacht Club had a lot on their plate managing a tricky weather weekend to get the races out. Kudos to the club on a job well done. Here's hoping for a different wind situation in 2025.
