This Junior Safety at Sea Seminar is a prerequisite for participation in the JSA of LIS Junior Big Boat Sailing Program (JBBS) regattas, such as Black Rock YC PHRF regatta, Stamford YC Dorade Trophy Regatta, and Beach Point Overnight Race (80% of the total crew of each boat, including the skipper, watch captains, navigator and any instructor serving as an advisor, shall have attended the most recent Storm Trysail Junior Safety at Sea Seminar).

Classroom sessions and hands-on training throughout the day.

COVID 19 Precautions

Consistent with CDC guidance, NY State and SUNY policies, masks are not required at the Seminar. Given the recent up tick in infection rates we encourage those who wish to wear a mask to do so, particularly indoors and in confined spaces. We also urge, but do not require, everyone to self-test before coming to the seminar. Obviously if you are not feeling well, please stay home. COVID conditions are fluid and we will continue to monitor CDC, State, City, and SUNY guidelines. If these change, it may warrant a change in our policies so please monitor your e-mail as the event approaches.

0700-0815 Registration – LYC Pandemonium
0830-915 Opening Session
0930-1230 Participants will rotate between various activities including: Heavy weather discussion, MOB discussion, Fire Fighting, MOB Throwbag Duel
1230-1300 Lunch
1300-1600 On the Water Practice

What to Bring

The seminar will be an all-day affair. You will be in the classroom and outdoors for the fire safety segment and on a boat practicing MOB. Please be prepared for all of these different environments.

We suggest you bring the following:

Cold Weather Sailing Gear for outside (weather dependent)
Life Jacket
Water Bottle
Lunch

The admissions fee is $70.
