The Storm Trysail Club in partnership with Houston Yacht Club will be hosting a second Gulf Coast US Sailing Sanctioned Hands-On Safety-at-Sea Seminar on Saturday, March 28th, 2020, at Houston YC in Shoreacres, Texas, with the support of the Storm Trysail Foundation, Lakewood Yacht Club and the Galveston Bay Cruising Association.

Following on the huge success of first Storm Trysail Hands-on SAS Seminar held in 2018, this event will again offer two instructional tracks.

Instructional tracks (select one):

• US Sailing Offshore Certificate track 1, limited to 60 participants, includes:
    o STC instructional videos
o An opening session addressing on-the-water leadership skills
    o Heavy weather sailing techniques
    o Search and rescue/communications
    o Storm sails
o Man overboard prevention and recovery (observed)
o In-water survival – PFDs and life rafts (observed)

• World Sailing (Hands-on) Offshore Certificate track 2, limited to 36 participants, includes everything in the US Sailing track plus Hands-on training in:
o US Sailing Online training – a prerequisite for certification
o Man overboard recovery and MOB prevention
o Hands-on Fire fighting and pyrotechnics (flares)
    o Hands-on In-water survival – PFDs and life rafts
o Hands-on Damage control and man overboard recovery drills

The seminar for both tracks will be supplemented by Storm Trysail's educational Safety-at-Sea Video Library produced by long time Storm Trysail member Gary Jobson. These videos cover a broad range of safety-at-sea subjects and will be available to attendees online prior to the seminar. The videos and other supplemental training documents must be viewed before arrival at the seminar. Participants seeking World Sailing Offshore Certification will also be required to take the US Sailing Offshore online video course and pass the associated online exam before attending the seminar (please bring your certificate of completion with you to the seminar’s on-site check in).
