35th Annual MBYC Fall Series

Fundraiser to Support ALS Research in Conjunction with the ALS Association

Honoring Founder John B. Thomson, Jr.

Our dear friend, John B. Thomson, Jr, a long-time member of Manhasset Bay YC, Storm Trysail Club and New York YC and of the world-wide sailing community, has ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. John founded the Manhasset Bay Fall Series, in 1979 to promote big boat racing in Western Long Island Sound when racing conditions were the best (read good wind.) John is also known around the world for his sailing/racing achievements. A few years ago, his three children - John B. Thomson, III, Vickie and Scott organized a birthday party for their father and the place was packed with sailors/racers who came from Newport, the west coast and international harbors to celebrate and honor this remarkable man.

Last year, family and friends, sailors and non-sailors joined the Thomson family in May to walk to find a cure for ALS. They walked again this May. And as is always, when sailors get together, ideas start flowing and one thing led to another and it just made sense for the 2013 Fall Series to partner with ALS and honor JBT, at the very series that John, Jr. founded to honor his father.

This year's Fall Series will be one for the history books. There will be something for everyone! Sailing's "rock stars" will race on the boat with the highest donation.

A special trophy for the boat that raises the most funds for ALS
A silent auction all day, Saturday, October 19
A special trophy for the best performance by a past winner of the John B. Thomson Sr. Trophy
A Tent Party (casual) after sailing where competitors, family and friends can "rub elbows" and get "up close and personal" with the sailing pros

So Please join us for the best autumn racing on Long Island Sound. Warm water, big breeze. And the opportunity to support John B. Thomson, Jr. and his family. What could be better than great racing, terrific party with food that only Manhasset Bay YC can provide, and knowing that you are contributing to ALS to help find a cure for this vicious disease!

Two race circles, east of Execution Rocks for IRC, PHRF and Offshore One-designs.
