Ramrod Wins Inaugural Farr 40 Chesapeake Fleet Regatta

Annapolis, Md., USA (May 18, 2009) – The newly formed Chesapeake Farr 40 Fleet held its inaugural Spring Regatta over the weekend of May 16-17, on Annapolis, Md., and as expected, Rod Jabin’s Ramrod, top U.S. boat at the 2008 Rolex Farr 40 Worlds, dominated the competition, winning all but one race in the seven-race series.

“These new Farr 40 owners are coming on strong,” said Rod Jabin (Annapolis). “We had to fight all the way, and they are just going to get better as this season goes on.” Kevin McNeil’s Nightshift – formerly Steve Phillips’ world champion Le Renard – was the only other boat to win a race. NcNeil finished in second place over Prebin Ostberg and Bud Dailey’s Tsunami one point behind in third.

The Storm Trysail Club’s Chesapeake Station hosted the event with Bert Jabin’s Yacht Yard hosting the awards party on Sunday. By starting races each day at 1:00pm, the fleet enjoyed optimum Chesapeake Bay wind conditions. With unusually steady breeze direction each day, the race committee was able to get in a full schedule of seven races.
